PGA Championship 2025: What to Watch at Quail Hollow

A Return to a Legendary Venue

The 2025 PGA Championship heads back to a familiar and formidable stage: Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. Set for May 15–18, this marks the second time Quail Hollow will host the PGA, the first being in 2017 when a young Justin Thomas claimed his first major.

Expect a stern test. The course is a par-71, stretching over 7,600 yards — highlighted by the daunting final three holes known as "The Green Mile". Long regarded as one of the toughest finishing stretches in golf, The Green Mile could once again decide who lifts the Wanamaker Trophy.

A Championship Steeped in History

The PGA Championship has crowned legends: Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, and many others have all etched their names into history here.

Last year at Valhalla, Xander Schauffele broke through for his first major championship. His title defense will be one of the major storylines to watch — especially against a hungry, talent-stacked field.

The End of a Journey, the Beginning of a Legacy

  • Rory McIlroy:Fresh off completing the career Grand Slam with a win at the Masters, McIlroy returns to one of his happiest hunting grounds. He's a multiple-time winner at Quail Hollow, including a course-record final round 62 in 2010.
  • Xander Schauffele: Coming into Quail Hollow as the reigning PGA Champion, Schauffele will look to back up his breakthrough with another big performance.
  • PGA Club Professionals: As always, the field will also include 20 PGA club professionals, adding heart and unpredictability to the mix.

One notable absence: Tiger Woods, who continues to recover from Achilles surgery and won't tee it up this year.

Why This Year Feels Special

Between the return to a course built for drama, McIlroy's momentum, and the depth of this year’s field, 2025 feels like it could deliver one of the most thrilling PGA Championships in recent memory.

With high stakes, a brutal closing stretch, and some of the biggest names peaking at the right time, all eyes turn to Charlotte for what promises to be a historic week at Quail Hollow.
